Together - Professor Jane Turner ' s family were part of an emotional night in her memory . Inset : Caroline Theobald was key note speaker .

Doubling as a tribute to the late Professor Jane Turner OBE , the Tees Businesswomen Awards were described as “ a wonderful celebration of the Power of Women ” by key note speaker Caroline Theobald CBE .

Asking the 370 guests to raise a glass “ in memory of her magic ”, Caroline said Jane knew the awards would “ shine a light on individual women ”.
“ Many of them had been hidden , just getting on with doing what they do - brilliantly , but quietly ,” said Caroline . “ Through these awards , the women of the Tees Valley would get recognised publicly for what they were achieving , not just at a ceremony but through the online and published pages of Tees Business .”
Caroline highlighted how the Businesswomen Awards had raised the profile of female business leaders across the region , with one result being the annual Tees Business poll on the top 30 most inspiring business leaders now achieving 50 / 50 gender parity – topped this year by Jane herself - compared to just three women before the advent of the awards .
“ What Jane also wanted passionately was that the successful women of today acted as inspiration for girls and young women growing up in the Tees Valley communities . She wanted to encourage more girls to dream big and to know that living their dream was possible , however hard their current reality .”
Caroline continued : “ On April 23 , three months before she died , Jane launched the Power of Women
Inspiration - tributes were paid to the late Professor Jane Turner OBE .
campaign . Its mission was very simple . It was to shift and lift the aspirations of girls and young women growing up in the Tees Valley - and to do this by taking them by the hand , listening actively and mindfully to their concerns and showing them what was possible .”
Jane aimed to do this “ using local examples - showing them people like you ,” she told the finalists .
Caroline concluded : “ It ’ s clearly wrong that as much as 50 per cent of the population are unable to reach their potential . But if you will , you can really help mobilise the campaign - you can share your stories , donate financial resource to help build a team , put wrongs in perception right whenever you hear them - but especially lead by example and act as a role model .”
