Tees pest control firm finds a long-term
solution to an age old problem
R
at is a three-letter word that sends shivers down the spine .
The thought of rodents invading a property or business is one that most of us try to ignore . But for many unfortunate householders , as well as members of the business community , the issue is one that ’ s all too real .
Rats can cause serious damage to property and are notoriously difficult to control . Fortunately , as many satisfied and grateful customers are discovering , a thriving Teesside pest control company can come to the rescue .
Stockton-based Kill Line eliminates the issue by denying rats access to a home or business .
Owner Sean Mooney points out that the traditional method of using poison to kill rats is , at best , only a temporary solution .
And , in a worst-case scenario , problems with rat infestation can go on for anything up to 20-plus years and cost owners thousands of pounds .
“ Putting poison in a drain to kill rats can be very ineffective ,” explains Sean .
“ The rat has a never-ending supply of food and water while it ’ s in a drainage system . It has no need to eat the poison so , therefore , it ’ s very rare for a rat to eat any poison that has been placed in
a drain .”
“ In typical examples ,” he continues ,” householders get rats in their loft and those rats have usually gained access via the drainage systems .
“ The pest controller comes out , puts poison down , kills some rats and seemingly gets rid of the problem . But the problem then returns and they repeat the process with the same outcome .
“ You end up in a vicious cycle that doesn ’ t resolve the problem . That method is costly and rarely works .
“ Our answer to the problem is to find the entry point into the building that the rats are using and block it . When you do that , the problem stops overnight .
“ We have invested in both the training and the equipment to do accurate drain surveys and we are close to achieving 100 per cent success rate in eliminating long-term rat problems . We use expertise , technology and a keen understanding of rat behaviour .”
We like to think that in the 21st century , problems with rats should be a thing of the past . But according to Sean that simply isn ’ t the case .
Kill Line has worked in houses , shops , care homes and other businesses to eradicate rat infestation and has identified a common cause .

“ We have realised that the vast majority of rat problems in either commercial or domestic buildings are related to the drains ,” says Sean .
“ A typical example would be a house with a new extension where the draining has had to be moved or an office block where work has been carried out and the drainage system altered . These changes can allow rats to find a way to leave the drains and get into the building .
“ I think it ’ s fair to say 90-95 per cent of all problems with rats are linked to the drains and 50-60 per cent of rat problems in domestic settings are inherited by a new homeowner .
“ That ’ s because in many cases , people who get a rat problem end up dealing with it over and over again because the rats just keep coming back and they get to the point where they can ’ t live in the house any more and they sell it . We are finding this happens frequently .
“ But our drain survey system will often work out cheaper than two or three rat treatments and , hopefully , if we can solve the problem , you don ’ t even have to use poison .
“ If you ’ ve stopped the rat ’ s access to the property , you ’ ve stopped the problem at source !”
