Deadline approaching for Medomsley Physical Abuse Settlement Scheme

Teesside Law Firm Tilly Bailey & Irvine Solicitors has been working to help victims of Medomsley Detention Centre abuse find closure .

The Ministry of Justice has that it will not make any offers of settlement in respect of claims alleging historic abuse at Medomsley Detention Centre where the claim is received after January 1 2022 .

Medomsley Detention Centre , near Consett in Durham , was a prison for young male offenders from 1961 until 1987 . The centre aim to give a “ short , sharp shock ” treatment to young offenders aged 17-21 .
Allegations began to surface from former inmates who alleged they were subjected to sexual , physical and mental abuse from prison officers while they were detained .
