A pioneering hydrogen energy project is set to be launched in the Tees Valley after planning permission was granted to use land in the region .
Northern Gas Networks has been granted planning permission to use an area of land to test hydrogen as a potential alternative to a household gas supply .
The site , between Ann Street and Harcourt Road in South Bank , is where around 70 homes were demolished 10 years ago .
The marquee at the magnificently refurbished Kirkleatham Walled Garden will be the venue of the inaugural Best New Tees Business Awards .
Celebrating rising new stars of the local business sector , the awards are being organised by Tees Business in association with PD Ports on the evening of Thursday November 11 .
Having held previous awards events at Wynyard Hall and more recently Hardwick Hall , the Best New Tees Business Awards will be the first time Tees Business has taken its growing stable of events into the Redcar area .
The Grade II-listed Kirkleatham Walled Garden has been closed for more than 30 years but has now been fully restored to feature formal gardens , a science garden , glasshouse , café , shop and a 350-seat pavilion , which will host the new awards event .

Complex welcomes first visitors after £ 9.8m revamp
The doors have officially opened at Redcar ’ s reborn Kirkleatham Walled Garden complex .
Redcar and Cleveland mayor , Councillor Carole Morgan , performed the opening ceremony at the development , which has undergone a £ 9.8m restoration after being closed for three decades .
It now features formal gardens , a science garden , areas for activities and a glasshouse , along with a café , a shop and a 350-seat pavilion available for events such as weddings , dinners and corporate events .
The Walled Garden will create new jobs , traineeships and apprenticeships through its catering and horticultural academy , many of which have already been achieved during the restoration and build period .
The café will serve locally grown produce , home-baked favourites , hot meals and hot and cold beverages .
