T he question of what to do next after leaving school can be a daunting one .
And the pandemic has only served to heighten young people ’ s anxiety around careers choices , with so much education missed and the usual activities they would engage in put on hold .
That ’ s why the High Tide Foundation says it ’ s more important than ever for the business community to work together to support our young people and help them achieve the futures they deserve .
The High Tide Foundation is an independent charity that connects classrooms with careers through the delivery of unique and meaningful work experience and industry-led career programmes .
In collaboration with businesses across the Tees Valley , High Tide offers a taste of the many career paths available to young people – including those that they might not otherwise have considered .
“ The High Tide Foundation gives young people aged 13 upwards an insight into exciting , high-quality career options and allows them to explore what those options are ,” says trustee Kirsten Donkin , of PD Ports .
“ Historically , children went to school and then to college and if they wanted to increase their career opportunities they went to university before looking for a job . But the world has changed and these are not the only options available today .
“ High Tide certainly doesn ’ t want to discourage people from achieving a degree , but we know that university isn ’ t necessarily the right path for everyone .” High Tide general manager Lauren Bywater adds : “ Our core message is to let young people know just how much is going on in our region .
