The head of ICL Boulby has hailed the announcement of a series of new contracts for fertilisers using its unique polyhalite mineral .
The East Cleveland mine ’ s general manager and vice president Andrew Fulton says recently-signed agreements in China , Poland , Spain and Ukraine total over a million tonnes , reflecting the global distribution footprint for polyhalite – marketed by ICL as Polysulphate – which have seen sales volumes increase at 50 per cent in each of the past three years . The latest contracts include : > A five-year agreement with a leading Ukrainian fertiliser company for a total of 350,000 tonnes .
> A 12-year agreement for over 500,000 tonnes for a major customer in Poland .
> An agreement with 16 regional distributors in China to sell 100,000 tonnes of Polysulphate and Polysulphate-based fertilisers in 2020 .

> A three-year agreement , with an optional one-year extension , for the use of Polysulphate by a leading producer and distributor in Spain .
Mr Fulton said : “ As the world ’ s first and only producer of polyhalite , we are proud to have been able to make our contribution to maintaining food production during this very challenging time .
“ Recognised by the UK government as an essential industry during the Covid-19 pandemic , everyone involved with the company has worked hard to maintain production and the news of these latest contracts show we are well placed to continue moving forward .
“ It also demonstrates the increasing acceptance of Polysulphate as a unique , high-quality , multi-nutrient fertiliser , demonstrated by over 600 field trials showing increases in growth , yield and quality in a wide variety of crops and conditions .”

Innovative recycling process attracts investment
Wilton Recovery is set to launch a pioneering process designed to cut manufacturing costs and reduce the amount of material going to landfill .
Teesside entrepreneur Allan Hoggarth has invested £ 300,000 in the business after recruiting a Doctor of Engineering to develop the recently patented technique .
The company is currently constructing a plant on the Wilton International Site , near Redcar , and aims to begin operations this year .
Wilton Recovery will work with other companies from Teesside ’ s chemical industry cluster , taking recycled product and converting it into powder form that can then be reintroduced into the manufacturing process .
Due to conditions of confidentiality , it is not yet revealing the exact details of the business .

BUILDERS TO BEGIN CINEMA CONSTRUCTION
Hot on the heels of publishing tenders for a £ 150m programme of demolition work across the Teesworks site , Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen issued another multimillion contract that could create a further 30 jobs .
The £ 5m contract for a further 40-acres of the newly named Dorman Point zone will see general site clearance , major earthworks , processing of excavated materials for reuse on site and the removal of local areas of contaminated ground for external treatment .
A million tonnes of material will be excavated and reprocessed as part of a second phase of work to make the Dorman Point zone ready for investment and job creation .
The redevelopment of The Regent cinema in Redcar is under way with builders preparing the site for construction .
The contractors , BAM Construction , are currently carrying out sewerage improvement works before the main demolition and groundworks begin .
Proposed designs were made public in January and more than 700 people responded to a consultation exercise , with 72 per cent saying they were in favour of the redevelopment .
The venue has been designed to seat nearly 200 people in three screens with 34 , 56 and 94 seats respectively . The cinema would also include a licensed café bar with spectacular sea views . It is expected to open in spring 2022 .
