FUTURE PROOFING
Jacksons Law Firm partner Karen Robinson reveals details of a new course for young employees …
One of the things most
students don ’ t learn at university is business development and how to go out and win new work .
At Jacksons , we have quite a lot of young people in our team , coming up through the ranks , who will be expected to bring new clients to the firm in due course .
This got us thinking about doing something to try to help young professionals in the region come together , develop relationships and learn new skills at the same time .
We therefore decided to launch The Network – a monthly networking event for young professionals in the North-East . The aim of this initiative is to help our trainees , newly-qualified staff and other colleagues , who fall into the “ young professional ” bracket build up their network of contacts who will potentially become future work referrers as they move up the career ladder .
I have been working with another partner at Jacksons , Richard Flounders , to get this off the ground . We will hand over the ropes to our younger team members once the event is established so that they can “ own it ”.
I ’ m delighted to announce the first of these events is taking place on Thursday October 29 , on Zoom , with guest speaker Jeni Smith , founder of Networking KnoWho , who will be talking about the power of networking .
Future topics will be announced in due course . All speakers will pass on useful advice to help improve confidence and develop skills in areas such as networking , communication , presentation , business development and social media , among others .
