Sparta targets expansion after more contract wins
Afast-growing security firm has revealed big growth ambitions as it continues to pick up major contracts across the Tees Valley .
Darlington-based Sparta Security says it hopes to create hundreds of new jobs and more than double turnover over the next two years after winning a raft of contracts throughout the North-East and Yorkshire .
Sparta ’ s ambitious founder and chairman , Francis Jones , believes he has set an achievable aim after growing his annual turnover to £ 1.5m .
With more than 25 years ’ experience in security , he launched the business ten years ago , and now employs more than 70 full-time staff , made up mainly of his Task Force security team .
Sparta has also invested more than £ 300,000 in a fleet of high-tech vehicles in recent years – his latest an eye-catching hybrid truck – ensuring his staff are fully equipped to keep their clients ’ properties secure .
“ We continue to grow and we ’ re ambitious ,” says Francis .
“ At the rate we ’ re winning new work , it ’ s our aim to get to £ 3.5m turnover within the next two years – and we don ’ t think that ’ s insurmountable .
“ Our reputation for providing a secure , professional service is growing – not just across the Tees Valley region , but throughout the North-East .”

Sparta has recently won a new deal with Containerships at Haverton Hill in Billingham .
That deal came hot on the heels of a contract with Volvo , based off Portrack Lane in Stockton , who have undertaken Sparta ’ s extensive preventative measures , as well as signing up for the reassurance of the day and night patrols at their showrooms .
From its Darlington roots , Sparta has branched out to a new bases in Hurworthon-Tees , Newton Aycliffe and Leeds , where companies are queuing up to use its bespoke services , including a 20-man task force patrol team made up of exforces personnel , CCTV , guard dogs , 24 / 7 surveillance and the newest technology .
Sparta ’ s impressive client list on the vast Aycliffe Business Park includes kitchen manufacturer PWS , logistics firm Stiller Warehousing and Distribution and Warrens Group , which runs the waste-to-energy site formerly known as Emerald Biogas , as well as more than 20 other smaller firms .
And Sparta ’ s close links to Durham Police helped secure a firm ring around clients ’ locked down premises , adding to the firm ’ s growing reputation .
Their presence was 24 / 7 and their white vans and SIA-certified guards , largely made up of ex-military personnel , constantly patrolled every street and corner of the area with the latest hi-tech equipment , CCTV and night and day patrols .
Further afield , Sparta looks after the Raby Estate , ISG International , EDF Energy , Bellway Homes and the Ministry of Defence , and has also recently won new contracts in Sunderland and Leeds .
Francis added : “ We ’ re delighted with the new work , but we ’ re geared up for growth and we have the capacity and the manpower to take on new clients with premises of all shapes and sizes .”
