32 | Tees Business Serving the Teesside Business Community | 33 DON’T BE AFRAID TO BE DIFFERENT, TO PUSH THE BOUNDARIES The best part of my job is... speaking to retailers and business owners who sell online about their business growth from using our eCommerce platform and online marketing services. That’s very rewarding. The biggest downside of my working life is... probably having to balance so many things that I enjoy. This typically means I don’t have enough time to do everything so have to be more careful with my time. Four words to describe me are… Dedicated, determined, dependable and different! My business mantra is... Happy Staff, Happy Clients. That’s our unofficial company mission statement too! TEES UP! The advice I’d give to business startups is... to make sure that your focus isn’t on making money but having an amazing product and service. Look after people around you, your staff - they are your biggest asset. Get this right, and the rest comes easy. The best business decision I ever made was... introducing unlimited paid holidays and flexitime. This was and still is a game changer in our industry and one that has shown to everyone that you can make bold and brave decisions and be an innovator - with success! The worst business decision I ever made was... trying too hard to put our red/black brand in the office and we decided to try red blinds. It looked like a different type of profession from the outside looking in at the red glare, so it lasted minutes and we had to bin all of the blinds.
