manager Nick Hobdey.
A
leading offshore survival training
firm has been shortlisted in the
finals of this year’s cHeRries Awards
in recognition of its innovative
approach to HR.
Falck Safety Services (Falck), which has 32
training centres across the world, including
three UK centres in Billingham on Teesside as
well as Aberdeen and Wellheads, is a finalist
in the Extraordinary HR Initiative category
due to its strong commitment to its people
following the introduction of a number of
new HR initiatives.
Introduced over the last 12 months,
Falck’s new employee engagement strategy
is focused around delivering initiatives in
the three key areas of wellbeing, career
development and financial security.
Under this new strategy, the safety
services provider has enhanced its
healthcare benefits, appraisal processes,
training needs analysis and on-going
employee communication to improve both
organisational and individual development.
Managing director Colin Leyden said: “Our
employees are at the centre of everything we
do and how we operate as a business and
this truly reflects our company philosophy of
‘people helping people’.
“Although we previously had a number
of employee benefits in place, we
acknowledged that there was still room to do
a lot more.
“The initiatives introduced over the past 12
months have had a noticeable and positive
impact upon our employees, who I am
confident feel greater engagement to the
organisation as a result.
”
Falck, a leader in health, safety, survival
and wind training, has continued to be at the
forefront of the oil and gas and renewable
sector worldwide for more than 20 years.
The Falck Teesside training centre boasts
a 23.7m state-of-the-art wind training tower
and offers boat transfer operations directly on
the River Tees, placing the safety provider at
the forefront of the UK and EU wind training
sector.

FIRM GETS ACTIVE
A Teesside team of financial advisors lived up to their
company name when they got active on a gruelling
coast-to-coast charity bike ride – raising £5,300 for local
community groups.
Staff and friends of Active Chartered Financial Planners
took on a 170-mile bike ride from St Bees in Cumbria to
Saltburn on the North-East coast.
Stockton-based Active are patrons of Middlesbrough and
Teesside Philanthropic Foundation, who will receive the
funds raised to support local charities and good causes.
They made the cross-country challenge with the
support of Active and Handelsbanken, with RMB Auto
and Coatham Coaches providing support vehicles, while
investment specialists Heartwood provided the riders with
special jerseys for the ride.
A Teesside transport company
is continuing to enjoy rapid
growth in 2015 despite the
impact of a driver shortage in
the sector.
Nicholson’s Transport has
recruited five new staff since
the start of the year as it
benefits from the upturn in the
economy.
The Billingham-based
business has adopted a clear
progression route for new
and existing drivers in order to
counteract the shortage which
resulted from older drivers
leaving the industry.
Managing director David
Nicholson set up his business
in 1987 with just himself and a
truck but now employs around
52 people with a fleet of 25
vehicles.
