W ilton Engineering Group boss Bill Scott got into a lather after he offered to boost the funds of the Middlesbrough and Teesside Philanthropic Foundation. The well-known businessman was one of the auction ‘prizes’ at a recent dinner organised by the charity - set up to make the area a better place to live, work and do business. Bill was one of several diners to pledge their services – his pledge was to wash the car of the highest bidder in a revealing outfit. Middlesbrough College principal and chief executive Zoe Lewis won with a bid of £320. And when Bill arrived at the college to fulfil his pledge, instead of Zoe’s car he was presented with a very grubby college van along with several buckets of soapy water and a stack of sponges. He joked: “I think Zoe should increase her bid given the size of the van and the amount of dirt on it. “ The college team then presented the outfit for Bill to wear while he washed the vehicle – a fluorescent green mankini. And while Bill was willing to wear it – all in the name of charity – college staff allowed him to keep his dignity due to a freezing wind blowing off the River Tees.
