Global Warming!

Do you notice how the weather changes frequently? And how it is supposed to be cold in winter but it is warm instead? Well, that is because of Global warming. Global warming is the increase in temperature of the earth’s atmosphere due to the greenhouse effect that is caused by the high levels of carbon dioxide, CFCs and other pollutants (Oxford Dictionaries). Global warming is considered harmful to earth and its organisms including humans as it might cause extensive vegetation to die off due to droughts, increases the risk of coral extinction, changes in migration patterns of birds and animals, and disruption to food chains which can lead to the loss of species (Wayne).

Although it could be argued that global warming does have some positive effects on planet earth especially to farmers as they will benefit from the longer growing seasons which results in increased agricultural production (Rosenberg), we still can’t deny or turn our backs on how detrimental global warming is on our environment. To refute back to the previous advantage, the impacts of drought, severe weather and the increasing number of pests will cause agriculture to fail and farmers or countries will end up with shortage in their livestock (Lallanilla). According to a number of analyses, this might stir problems in international food markets and could also lead to famines, food riots, political instability and civil unrest worldwide (Lallanilla).

In addition, Global warming causes ice to melt all around the world, especially at the Earth’s poles, which means that mountain glaciers and ice sheets covering West Antarctica and Greenland are all melting (Lallanilla) which will cause the sea level to rise hence making floods more common.

Furtheremore, as the temparature increases, the warmer temperature is going to attract many disease-causing pathogens that existed

Global Warming - Its Affect on Our Planet

Adélie Penguins

According to the researcher Bill Fraser, the melting of the ice glaciers has caused the declination of the Adélie penguins on Antarctica, where their numbers have fallen from 32,000 breeding have fallen from 32,000 breeding pairs to 11,000 in 30 years (National Geographic).

in tropical and subtropical areas to other countries (Lallanilla), such diseases include the famous pathogen: Malaria, that is carried by mosquitos. Thus, as diseases spread, the need of medical and health care is going to increase, which is quiet expensive and could be unattainable as there might be shortage of doctors and nurses, especially in undeveloped countries. In addition, those diseases will not only kill humans but plants and animals too, which demolishes the biodiversity in certain areas. Another cause of global warming is the the acidification of oceans. As carbon dioxide increases, the oceans absorb it, which increases the acidity of seawater. Since acids dissolve calcium carbonate, the acidic seawater is going to have a noxious effect on organisms that has shells made of calcium carbonate, such organisms include corals, mollusks, shellfish and plankton (Lallanilla).

As can be seen, global warming is tremendously destructive to environment. If we continued to ignore our actions -that is littering and using non-degradable substances such as plastic- Earth will not be able to sustain us. Consequently, in order to protect our environment, we should spread awareness about the cause, as well as make sure to recycling and reusing instead of just throwing a plastic bag or an old computer. We could also ride bicycles or use the bus transport or carpooling, households could also have a one big family car instead of having many.

In conclusion, we ought to be really aware with what is going on in our environment. Humans keep on inventing materials that could entertain them, if that is possible, then why not create a device or a machine that could help in sustaining the environment?
