anyone. However, when I started working in our local grocery store, I was forced to break out
of my shell a bit and actually make small talk, which is a pain for shy people. Working
provided me with more experience and a valid and useful way to spend my summer.
The most obvious reason to work over the summer is the oney
m
. The first week on the
job, I put in thirtythree hours which earned me a whopping two hundred and thirtysix U.S.
dollars. If you’re a teenager who doesn’t have bills to pay, that is
a lot of money. The first thing
I did was throw that money into my savings account that I had started building toward a new
iPhone 6. Of course, my parents could have probably bought me that iPhone, but then I
wouldn’t feel the satisfaction of having bought myself a $750 phone. It’s one thing when
you’re handed something, but when you actually feel the satisfaction of typing in
your own
card number
into that online store’s checkout it’s a whole other story.
In conclusion, teens should work during the summer because it looks good on a
college application, it gives you something better to do during the summer than get drunk and
party, and of course because you earn money. Working during the summer can prove to be a
great asset to your future and can teach you valuable lessons such as discipline or
professionalism. Would you rather waste your time spending your parents money partying?
Or would you rather be making your own money to buy your own things?
