Calling All 50 + Golfers— The CSG League is Looking for a Few Good Men
It was 16 years ago; I had just turned 50 when my dad, who was 70 at the time and had played in the league for several years, asked me to join him. With a touch of arrogance, I boasted strongly,“ I’ m not a senior!”
Dad chuckled, then told me that once you turn 50, you can play in the Classic Senior Golf League( CSGL). I admit my ego didn’ t want to accept that age 50 classified me as a“ Senior.” Now, at 71, I’ ve conceded! Nevertheless, I’ ll never forget how much I enjoyed golfing with my dad and his crew, who at the time were all 70-plus. We played golf together often. It was always fun to blast tee shots past theirs by 100 yards, but more often than not, I was paying“ them” for skins after the round. Funny how that works!
The league is run by an all-volunteer board of dedicated individuals passionate about golf and running the league for the enjoyment of the members. Except for some small administrative expenses, all league fees are returned to the members in the form of prize payouts. The 2027 season payouts will depend on league size.

Now entering its 34th year( in 2027), the Classic Senior Golf League is for golfers aged 50-plus who want“ slightly” competitive golf. I found the league perfect for testing my skills against other golfers( and dad) in a competitive yet friendly atmosphere. Plus, I really enjoyed playing at a variety of great golf courses.
Patrick Naime, president of the CSGL, said,“ It’ s fun to travel around to different courses playing in the league each week. We play 14 events on Mondays from late April through September. We play by USGA rules, including playing the ball down and holing out all putts. The league plays a unique stroke play / match play format where weekly prizes are awarded in each of three flights played from different tees, so distances better reflect playing ability. Play is stroke play with individual head-to-head matches for points that accumulate for mid-season, second session, and season-long awards.”
Naime says the league, founded in 1990, is a good choice for a competitive senior player who wants to play at a variety of nice courses in the Kansas City area, compete for match play and low gross and low net prizes, plus meet a group of great guys who enjoy golf and each other’ s company.
The league limits membership to approximately 130 members. It is open to male golfers who must play to a maximum course handicap of 20, even though we limit the league handicap to 30 or below. New players’ handicaps are formulated through their GHIN or by submitting their most recent eight scores along with slope and rating. After that, only league scores will count toward their CSGL handicap. The season consists of two sessions, each having six scored singles matches and one social / team event. The membership is divided into three divisions / flights according to handicap. Golfers compete against players in their own division.
League sign-ups for the 2027 season begin by late December 2026. The 2027 application to join the Classic Senior Golf League will be available on its website in mid- to late December. Guaranteed spots for returning members are held until January 14th, and the roster will be filled by the end of February.
Some of the courses scheduled for 2027 include Excelsior Springs, Falcon Lakes, Fred Arbanas, Paradise Pointe – The Posse and The Outlaw, and Sycamore Ridge. Updates to the courses scheduled can be found at the CSGL website.
Naime encourages all interested individuals to visit the CSGL website for valuable information, including the 2026 schedule of courses played, updates regarding the 2027 courses scheduled, and the“ Players Guide,” which provides comprehensive details on all aspects of league play.
Registration fees typically range from $ 135 to $ 145, depending on the sign-up date, which unlocks reduced green fees at every host course.
