There’ s a new golf club bag drop to help improve traffic flow. Carts are no longer permitted in the parking lot. You must be 18 years or older to drive a golf cart.
The course will not host any tournament events for the 2026 season. To book an event for 2027, you can reach out to the clubhouse staff starting in November 2026.
According to Doug Schroeder, director of golf services for KC Parks & Recreation, after the recent renovations, green fees at Swope increased for 2026. That should not surprise anyone. They spent over $ 9 million to spruce it up for you! Golfers( me included) are chomping at the bit to play Swope now that it’ s reopened. Plan now to book your tee time quickly.
As Swope Memorial Golf Course enters its new chapter, the staff is asking for your help in adhering to all course rules. Proper golf attire is required at all times on the course. Men must wear collared shirts with Bermuda-style shorts or golf pants. Denim, sweatpants, athletic wear or activewear, tank tops, or clothing with offensive language or graphics is not permitted. Women must also wear appropriate golf attire, including golf shirts, skirts, skorts, shorts, or pants. Golf shoes must have soft spikes only.
I’ ve been playing this course since my teenage years, and it’ s always a treat to play— especially with the KC Zoo next door and the occasional sounds of lions and elephants. If you haven’ t played the historic Swope Memorial Golf Course, then you either just moved to Kansas City or are a golfing“ newbie.” After all the recent renovations, it should certainly be on your 2026 – 27 coursesto-play list. While there, take some time to admire the historic stone clubhouse; they just don’ t build them like that anymore.
The course is owned by Kansas City Parks and Recreation, which commissioned A. W. Tillinghast for its first facelift in 1934. This historic golf facility is unlike any in Kansas City. Legends like Ben Hogan and Sam Snead played here in the 40s, along with many famous Hollywood movie stars from the 50s and 60s. It was once the home of the PGA TOUR’ s Kansas City Open( 1949), making it the only public course in the area to have hosted a PGA TOUR event.
Along with Swope Memorial, Kansas City Parks and Recreation owns Blue River Golf Academy, Hodge Park Golf Course, Minor Park Golf Course, and Shoal Creek Golf Course. Orion Golf manages all the courses for the city.
