It re-opened in 1999 , renamed in memory of the Air Force and pilots based here . This unique hole is peppered with 16 sand bunkers –– like a B-52 made bomb drops . Sadly , Bogie , at age 18 , passed on 11 / 27 / 23 . Birdie now takes the reins with this contest . She is tiny , full of energy , eats everything in sight , and hunts any varmint from birds and squirrels to snakes ─ if it moves she ’ ll chase it down . Both Bogie and Birdie ( Jack Russell ’ s ) are Bill & Victoria Cromwell ’ s spoiled children . Bogie was the oldest of our two magazinemascots , he was the king of “ his castle ,” and ruled the household . Now , Birdie rules .
