Aces and Birdies Highlight the First Wee Links Shootout
The first Heritage Park Wee Links Shootout is in the books . The record books — performances that will be difficult to duplicate , let alone surpass .

Zachary Patykiewicz had three birdies and a hole-in-one for a 3-and-1 win in the match play championship . Aquinas sophomore Sloan Jacobsen birdied the first five holes to take medalist honors with a 5-under-par 13 in the six-hole qualifying round on July 21 . Open to juniors , age 17 and under , the tournament was the first competitive event to be held on the new Wee Links course at Heritage Park in Olathe . Requiring only about an acre of land , the longest hole is 30 yards , and the entire course is less than 160 yards in length . Also , cups are larger ( 6 inches vs . 4.25 on regular courses ). The $ 3 green fee is good for all day .
Patykiewicz grabbed control of the championship match with Lawrence junior Nate Schworm by starting with a birdie , ace , and birdie and then closing it out with a par and birdie . Patykiewicz was presented the Kirk Cup , and he and Schworm were awarded the gold and silver medals by Rob Wilkin , Heritage Park ’ s general manager . Certificates signed by PGA Hall of Famer Tom Watson and Wilkin were also presented to the top finishers and a trio posting holes-in-one . In addition to his ace in the championship match , Patykiewicz had an ace in qualifying , while Maddox Sundet and Elise Halley also slam-dunked holes-in-one .
The Wee Links course is the second in the Kansas City area . Jeff Burey founded and teamed with David Axland in designing the original Red Bridge Wee Links course at Twin Oaks Golf in Eudora . Titleist provided golf balls for the Shootout participants . Others making the Shootout possible included Frank Kirk of the Kirk Foundation , St . Thomas Aquinas golf coach Ryan Best , Central Links Golf , Midwest PGA Section , Watson Links , Johnson County Parks and Recreation , Kaw Valley Junior Golf Foundation , Heart of America Golf Course Superintendents Association , Youth on Course , and Heritage Park Golf Course .
