The par-5 9th hole has water down the left side of the fairway, so pull shots tend to dive into the water. Then the 10th is one of the longest par 5s in the metro area, stretching nearly 600 yards from the white tees— yikes. Ten, known as the course’ s signature hole, more often than not, plays over 600 yards, and if the wind blows from the north, it feels like it plays over 700 yards. There’ s a challenge for ya!
Holes 11 and 12, once again, are long par 4s with the 11th playing 421 yards, followed by shorter par 4s on 13 and 15. The 13th plays only 279 yards and is very reachable( trust me— I almost did).
So, here is the long and short of it— those long and short par 4s are what make Hidden Valley so fun to play! There are some long par 4s, but also holes like 13 that can be reached, and 15 where a birdie is very possible if you hit a good drive. Hidden Valley features challenging holes as well as a few holes where you can potentially recover lost strokes.
The short par-5 7th plays just 414 yards, but getting home in two, especially on a windy day, is no guarantee thanks to water fronting the green.

Mulligans has become known as more than just a place to tally scorecards— it is a very Lawson-oriented pub with local memorabilia hanging on the walls, thanks to people in the community. The people in Lawson take pride in seeing all the old sports jerseys and pictures from their past.
Hole 8 is a fairly lengthy par 4 with a creek a few yards in front of the green and the woods on the left.( Photo by John Baccala)
Much like the front nine, the back features another“ risk / reward”— the short par 5, the 17th, is one of the favorite holes on the course for many. It’ s a very challenging dogleg left with trees lining the entire left side of the fairway and a creek bed in front of the green. It can be one of the toughest holes on the course.
The maintenance crew does an excellent job of keeping the course and greens in nearly pristine condition— no easy task considering how large all the greens are.
Hidden Valley offers a practice putting green, a driving range, and a uniquely Lawson experience inside Mulligans Eatery and Pub, which features a full menu and bar with the best steaks and tenderloins in the northland.
Food is very important to me( as my waistline will attest), but ultimately, for me anyway, it’ s all about golf, and Hidden Valley shouldn’ t be“ hidden” from golfers any longer. Green fees are very reasonable, and the course is well-maintained, making it very manageable for riders and walkers alike. Imagine that— walking while you golf!
Hidden Valley offers a perfect blend of suburban golf amenities and rural, small-town charm. There’ s a very friendly team of people both in the clubhouse and on the grounds crew, who always stop to chat and make sure your round of golf is enjoyable. Hidden Valley— yep, I will definitely be seeing you again very soon!
