BLUE SPRINGS , MO — Stone Canyon Golf Club opened for play in 2009 as the only Greg Norman Signature Design Course in the Midwest . It quickly received accolades from national golf magazines .
New ownership took over the course during 2015 with long-term plans taking the course and area residential development well into 2036 . At the time , new owner Kevin Stallings , the residential builder of the surrounding property , said , “ I want Stone Canyon Golf Club to be known as the # 1 Kansas City area destination for golf enthusiasts !”
Since that time , Stallings implemented numerous upgrades to the course and its level of services . The Bentgrass tee ’ s , fairway , and greens are typically in pristine condition making for excellent playing surfaces year-round . Plus , weather permitting , unlike Zoysia fairways , carts are allowed on the Bentgrass fairways throughout the winter months .
In 2022 , a new fleet of Precedent Club Cars with Visage GPS System where purchased , which include 10.4 ” HD Touch Screens , Bluetooth Speakers , and Plush Seats . More upgrades are planned for the 2025 season .
Stone Canyon ’ s 18-hole , 7,059-yard championship layout provides a truly memorable golf challenge with Norman ’ s signature design traits that include Bentgrass from tee to green , creative bunkering , and landscape accents . Its dramatic layout and elevated tees traverse rolling and rugged terrain with several spectacular stone outcroppings integrated into the layout — hence the name Stone Canyon .
There ’ s also an excellent short game practice area , large driving range with targets , and huge practice-putting green .

Closing for the 2025 season for course renovations . Hurry and play it this fall !
KANSAS CITY , MO — If you don ’ t already know , Swope Memorial Golf Course will close after December 2024 and remain closed for the 2025 season for course renovations , so hurry and play it this fall while you have the chance . Swope Memorial opened in 1909 , and was Designed by A . W . Tillinghast . The history of this facility is unlike any in Kansas City ; legends like Ben Hogan and Sam Snead played here .
Swope Memorial ’ s 18-hole , par 72 , 6,274-yard course is short by comparison of today ’ s newer courses . However , by no means should you let that fool you ! It ’ s design is a classic golf course with a deceptive 6,200 yards of hilly terrain and quick undulated greens . Huge 100-year-old trees line every fairway on the course , meaning if you don ’ t hit the fairway with your tee shot then you will be in trouble .
The 13th , par-3 , 235-yard and the 14th , par-4 , 416-yard both offer true challenges . No . 13 plays downhill to an elevated green . No . 14 has a severe dogleg with large groups of trees enveloping the back of the green . The signature hole , No . 17 at Swope Memorial , is a par-5 , 566-yard hole with an uphill fairway , and at the crest of the hill , you ’ ll see the Kansas City skyline . Par on this hole is something to brag about . However , many of the holes on the course will be renovated and / or changed in some way — for the better when reopening in 2026 !
What won ’ t change is this classic golf course is one of a kind in Kansas City and should be a “ Must Play ” for every golfer to play at least once every year . While you ’ re playing the newly renovated course during 2026 , be sure to listen for the roar of the lions and other wild animal sounds from the Swope Park Zoo just next door . It ’ s a crazy , yet fun thing to hear while golfing .
