Take the Women in Your Life Golfing
For golfers, May means longer daylight hours, greener fairways, and smooth, fast greens after the March and April aerification work has healed. Greens should now roll great— ready for draining those forty-foot putts, grabbing a few more birdies, and maybe the beloved eagle. Bentgrass fairways are lush and green( Zoysia will take a bit longer), with no bad lies— unless you’ re in the rough. Nothing beats having the ball perfectly positioned, ready for a clean shot to a pristine green. Ah, there’ s nothing like the delightful smell of freshly cut golf course grass in the morning. It must be shared with others!
May also celebrates Mother’ s Day. Moms should be honored not only on May 10 but every day. Especially Victoria; she is just so amazing, and a darn good golfer! May is a great month to share the joys of golfing and the delightful aroma of freshly cut golf course grass with Mom or all the women in your life. Start by taking Mom golfing; she might enjoy the fresh air and beautiful scenery. Grab the clubs, take moms, daughters, granddaughters, girlfriends— heck, take sons and all the grandkids golfing. Plan a day, or go wild and make the entire month about golfing with those in your circle you may not have had the chance to golf with in a while.
There is a method to this newfound madness of introducing golf to all the women in your life— they’ ll be hooked on the game and desperately yearn to spend May 14 – 17 watching the PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club, Newtown Square, PA, with you on TV. You can tell them all about how Scottie Scheffler grabbed a cool $ 3,420,000 winning last year’ s championship, then went on to win THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson the following week and The Memorial Tournament last June. They’ ll be all pumped up to watch the U. S. Open on June 18-21 and fantasize about playing golf with you at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, NY, on your next dream golf getaway.
However, if Southampton, NY, is just not in the wheelhouse, a three-day weekend full of golf at the Lake of the Ozarks could be the place to play those golf getaway rounds. It’ s the perfect two-hour drive for avid golfers to tee it up at any of the Lake’ s 12 premier golf courses. See page 24 for a complete guide to Lake area golf courses. You’ ll find even more information about Lake of the Ozarks Golf Trail golf courses, lodging partners, and Golf Trail stay-and-play packages on page 26. If you start planning now for your Memorial Day weekend or make reservations for June, a U. S. Open golf getaway, you’ ll get the best tee times and have something to look forward to.
Dust the cobwebs off those clubs and head to the course for the first time this spring –– but remember, don’ t take the early season or the first round of the year as a grim outlook for the remainder of the season. You’ ll need time to regain the smooth swings and develop that feel for your short game— especially from 100 yards to the cup( I know, I was terrible at chipping the first time out this year). With a few more rounds, you will improve and tally lower scores. If not, take a few lessons— they’ ll cost you a lot less than losing all those expensive ProV1s. Plus, we won’ t need to wait on you as you look for those family heirlooms lost in the weeds. It’ s lost; move on!
Most of all, remember you’ re outdoors, and it’ s a perfect 70-degree spring golf day. Take in the day, the game, family and friends, and enjoy your day on the course. Who knows, you might birdie a few more holes or, better yet, eagle the par-5 18th— Sweet!
