knocking, but it won’ t be because of the elevation. This downhill par 4 features a narrow landing area with water left and out-of-bounds right. And if you go too far right, you might be paying for someone’ s windshield driving down View High Drive. But let’ s assume you do land your tee shot safely in the fairway. Your second shot must successfully navigate the hole’ s three-tiered green and avoid the water on the left. It’ s a beautiful— and beautifully challenging golf hole.
The course is in fantastic shape, and even with the challenges it presents, Fred Arbanas is a very“ player-friendly” layout. You’ re not going to feel like you’ re“ beat up” after 18 holes— even though your scorecard may say otherwise. It’ s a great setting for a great day of golf, regardless of your skill( or lack of).
Probably the most talked-about hole at Fred Arbanas is the famed par-4 12th. The course’ s“ Signature Hole,” often called the most picturesque hole on the course( photo below), plays 403 yards from the blue tees, and Longview Lake borders the hole, providing a stunning backdrop behind the green. There is a strategically placed large bunker on the right side of the fairway near the landing area, and when you hit your approach shot, remember, long and left equals lake( splash).
Hole 10 is a long downhill par 5, 548 yards from the blue tees. Avoiding the fairway bunker on the right side is a must if you want to shoot par on this hole. This is a tough par 5 to reach the two-tiered green in two. Play smart with a layup well short of the greenside bunker unless your sand game is solid.( Photo by Bill Cromwell)

Speaking of Longview Lake, let the lake be your guide when you finally reach the putting surface. Many of the greens are tiered, firm, and fast— putt cautiously. When in doubt, favor breaks towards the lake.
The championship course provides a strong test of golfing skill, and the par 3 course is a great option for less-skilled players or a place to work on your short game. There aren’ t many places where you can get a championship 18-hole course, an executive par 3 course, a large driving range, and multiple PGA teaching pros all in one location.
