The hybrid club , sometimes referred to as a rescue club , is a morph between a fairway wood and a long iron . The hybrid is constructed with a large amount of perimeter weighting , which makes them easier to hit and very forgiving , especially when compared to a long iron . Traditional irons have a slim design on the bottom or sole of the club designed to hit down and through the turf , and it is sometimes hard for the golfer to successfully accomplish clean contact with this design . The hybrid is a larger club , which allows the weight to be moved to the back of the clubhead , promoting a higher ball flight and making it easier to get the ball up and airborne . The length of the shaft is shorter than fairway woods , and the clubhead is larger than irons . This combination takes the best of both the fairways and the irons to make the hybrid an easier and more accurate club for both amateurs and professionals .
Hybrids are no strangers to the golf market and have been popular for several years . What we are seeing now is the trend of adding more and more hybrids to the bag .
