New Drivers for 2023
Loaded with Long Drive Tech
by Eddie Hall , Equipment Writer
As the 2023 golf season gets into full swing , the golfer ’ s search for more distance off the tee continues . All the manufacturers try to supply that elusive driver to satisfy the golfer ’ s search . At least for this season . However , with each new season , that increased distance becomes harder and harder to get . This is due to the USGA regulating the Coefficient of Restitution ( COR ). There can only be so much “ spring-like action ” in a driver face . With that in mind , we see the emphasis switching to hitting more accurate shots . As the saying goes , you are better with a 250-yard drive in the fairway than a 350-yard drive deep in the woods . Let ’ s look at some of the options for this year in the driver category .
Callaway
Callaway introduces the Paradigm series of drivers . Callaway advertises the Paradigm family as a “ complete shift in performance with unparalleled distance and forgiveness .” A brand-new Carbon Chassis allows Callaway to redistribute the weight to maximize the distance . This carbon chassis is 44 % lighter than the titanium chassis in previous drivers . What does this mean to you ? The ability to move the weight allows Callaway to maximize the MOI ( Moment of Inertia ), which is the amount of twisting . The higher MOI helps the driver head not to twist as much on off-center strikes . This equates to a more forgiving club . The Paradigm drivers are available in three distinct models and retail for $ 599 . These drivers are a must-try in your search for more distance and forgiveness .
TaylorMade
TaylorMade is featuring “ FARGIVENESS ” with the new Stealth 2 drivers . This combination of distance and forgiveness is the second generation of last year ’ s Stealth drivers . The Stealth drivers featured Carbonwood for distance , and the Stealth 2 drivers now have nearly twice the amount of carbon . TaylorMade is introducing a new Carbon Reinforced Carbon Ring , which enables the weight to move around . The ability to move that weight increases the MOI , which , as we mentioned earlier , increases the forgiveness for your off-center shots . That increased MOI is further enhanced by the 25-gram weight in the back of the clubhead and the TPS front weight . The drivers offered in this line are the Stealth 2 , Stealth 2 Plus , and Stealth 2 HD . They also retail at $ 599 .
Titleist
Titleist introduced its new TSR drivers last fall , and they are making a big impact . The TSR drivers are advertised as being “ Faster , Longer , and Straighter .” To make the drivers faster , Titleist concentrated on improving the clubhead ’ s aerodynamics , which was accomplished by using a new “ boat tail ” shape to reduce drag . To increase the length , Titleist utilized rare alloys like the ones used by NASA . These alloys added strength , recoil , and durability
