reminders to maintain golf posture( see photos above-right) during the swing will help the junior succeed. A swing cue to use at this stage is the Y-hit-Y pattern( see photos above). Having success striking the ball about 10 or so times during this step means we are ready for the next!
The Follow-Through Trophy Pose
“ In golf, as in life, it’ s the follow-through that makes the biggest difference,” Anonymous. This is my favorite part of the swing to teach! When junior golfers play in tournaments, they may receive a trophy with a golfer statue on top, positioned in the“ trophy pose.” This pose happens when we build on the Y-hit-Y swing and add in the trophy pose for a finish— club resting on neck / ponytail, belly button looks to the target, and back foot taps the ground, which allows weight to transfer to our target / front foot.

Once these basic steps are completed and striking the ball each time is accomplished, let the golfer explore adding more momentum into the back-swing. Self-discovery in golf can lead to major benefits. When given the opportunity to play it often— golf has the power to teach so many life skills. When a golfer self discovers how to swing better or hit a certain shot, they set the pathway for being self-motivated and successful people in the future.
