Two KC Area Women Golfers Heading to the U . S . Women ’ s Open
The 78th U . S . Women ’ s Open Championship will be held July 6-9 at Pebble Beach Golf Links ( CA ). It will be the first time Pebble Beach has hosted the U . S . Women ’ s Open and its 14th USGA championship .
We are proud to announce the two Kansas City area women we have followed and featured in this magazine since they were young children playing junior golf ; Julia Misemer and Megan Propeck both qualified at 36-hole qualifiers earning playing spots in this year ’ s U . S . Open Championship .
Julia Misemer , with dad / caddy Todd , is a 2023 Women ’ s U . S . Open qualifier and Nicklaus Golf Club at Lions Gate member . Below , Julia tees off at the 2023 Watson Challenge .
Julia Misemer ( a ), age 19 , of Overland Park , KS , qualified on May 30 at Gainey Ranch Golf Club , Scottsdale , AZ . Of the 69-player field ( nearly half professional golfers ), Misemer shot 66-70 and took First Place with a total gross score of 136 , securing her playing spot at the Open . After completing her qualifying rounds in Arizona , she rushed back to Overland Park , KS , to tee it up at the Watson Challenge , just a day later as the only female in the field . Of the field of 48 ( male ) golfers , Misemer shot rounds of 75 and 76 and finished with a par 72 — tied for 26th place at plus 7 .
Misemer began playing golf as a young junior golfer in the Kansas City U . S . Kids Tour and Central Links Golf Association ( formerly KCGA ). Today she attends the University of Arizona as a rising sophomore and enjoyed a solid first season for the Wildcats , finishing second individually in the Raleigh , NC , Regional to help her team win the title and advance to the NCAA Championships . Her consecutive 68s were the lowest rounds by an Arizona freshman in 20 years — her 74.08 scoring average ranks in the top 12 by a freshman in Arizona history .

Her list of golf-related accomplishments is long , and she ’ s played many of the finest courses around the county . This is her first U . S . Women ’ s Open .
Megan Propeck is a 2023 U . S . Women ’ s Open qualifier and Blue Hills Country Club member with her parents , Doug ( also her caddy for the qualifier ) and Sherrie .
