historic golf facility is unlike any in Kansas City. Legends like Ben Hogan and Sam Snead played here in the 40s, along with many famous Hollywood movie stars from the 50s and 60s. It was once the home of the PGA TOUR’ s Kansas City Open( 1949), making it the only public course in the area to have hosted a PGA TOUR event.
Swope Memorial renovations include, reseeded Zoysia fairways, tee complexes, new white quartz sand bunkers, renovated greens, and scenic mounding.
Along with Swope Memorial, Kansas City Parks and Recreation owns Blue River Golf Academy, Hodge Park Golf Course, Minor Park Golf Course, and the upscale Shoal Creek Golf Course. Orion Golf manages all the courses for the city.

Swope Memorial’ s 18-hole, par-72 course at 6,274 yards is considered short compared to today’ s newer courses. However, by no means should you let that fool you! Its classic golf course design, with a deceptive 6,274 yards of hilly terrain, doglegs, and now undulating greens guarded by new white sand bunkers, will certainly challenge the best golfers. With recent renovations and hole rerouting, the course yardage might change slightly( TBD). The former 3rd hole is now the 8th, and the former 4th hole is now the 9th, for example.

According to Doug Schroeder, director of golf services for KC Parks & Recreation, after the recent renovations, green fees at Swope are expected to increase in 2026. That should not surprise anyone. They spent over $ 9 million to spruce it up for you! Golfers( me included) will be chomping at the bit to play Swope when it reopens, so plan now to book your tee time quickly.
