Eagles ’ Landing Golf Course , Belton , MO , opened for public play in 1999 and quickly became regarded as one of the best public golf courses in the Kansas City area . The course , located in Belton , MO , on a former air force base , completed a 2.25 million-dollar renovation in 1998 that included the rebuilding of all 18 greens , the addition of two practice greens , a new irrigation system , fairway re-grading and drainage , and the addition of 45 new tee complexes .
A new clubhouse was built in 2006 , and shortly after , it completed a new practice range . General Manager Jay Kennedy says , “ Walk away smiling — that ’ s our goal . We want golfers to have a great time at Eagles ’ Landing , whether you play 18 or 9 holes of golf . So , come on down and let our friendly staff show you a good time !”
Distinctive features of Eagles ’ Landing include 69 sand bunkers that pepper the landscape like a B52 Bomber made a practice run . The course plays 6,926 yards from the championship tees , 6,348 from the blue tees , 5,737 from the white tees , and 4,909 from the forward green tees . Offering plush Zoysia fairways , the course is always in fabulous condition from tee to green . Eagles ’ Landing is regarded as one of the most challenging yet fun courses to play within the Kansas City area .

KANSAS CITY , MO — If you don ’ t already know about Swope Memorial Golf Course , which opened in 1909 , then you ’ ve just moved to KC from Chicago or are a golfing “ newbie .” Designed by A . W . Tillinghast , the history of this facility is unlike any in Kansas City ; legends like Ben Hogan and Sam Snead played here .
Swope Memorial ’ s 18-hole , par 72 , 6,274-yard course is short by comparison of today ’ s newer courses . However , by no means should you let that fool you ! It ’ s design is a classic golf course with a deceptive 6,200 yards of hilly terrain and quick undulated greens . Huge 100-year-old trees line every fairway on the course , meaning if you don ’ t hit the fairway with your tee shot then you will be in trouble .
The 13th , par-3 , 235-yard and the 14th , par-4 , 416-yard both offer true challenges . No . 13 plays downhill to an elevated green . No . 14 has a severe dogleg with large groups of trees enveloping the back of the green . The signature hole , No . 17 at Swope Memorial , is a par-5 , 566-yard hole with an uphill fairway , and at the crest of the hill , you ’ ll see the Kansas City skyline . Par on this hole is something to brag about .
This classic golf course is one of a kind in Kansas City and should be a “ Must Play ” for every golfer to play at least once every year .
