Test Drive These Clubs and More at The KC Golf Show
Editorial by Bill Cromwell
Golfers attending the KC Golf Show this month will be among the county ’ s first to test drive the new 2024 golf clubs . All the new equipment for the year is traditionally unveiled at The PGA Show in Orlando , held January 23- 26 — just three days after we went to press for this issue .
At the time of this writing , those of us in media can only glimpse the new stuff via media sneak peeks or monitoring the USGA ’ s conforming list in hopes of catching unique design elements about 2024 clubs . But , as I said , golfers attending the KC Golf Show this month will be able to see , feel , and test the newest goodies . Here are a few goodies to test drive .
Cobra ’ s LS model offers three weight ports ( two forward and one back ) to dial in launch , spin , and shot shape . Both the Max and X models also offer adjustable ports , with the Max including one in the heel to reduce a slice , and the X includes two weights in the middle of the head and the rear . If you ’ re a Cobra fan , this could be a club to test drive and see if its performance matches its looks .

An excellent way to find out about the new stuff is to spy on the Pros , and over the past few months , cameras have been zooming in on players to glimpse at what ’ s in their bag or hit off the tees . A few goodies from Cobra , PING , PXG , and TaylorMade have been spotted .
Cobra Darkspeed
Rickie Fowler has been seen teeing up at three different events with Cobra Darkspeed prototypes . A new series of Cobra Dark speed drivers has caught the eye . Reportedly , Fowler has used a Darkspeed 8-degree LS ( low-spin ) head turned up to 9 degrees in one event . He also tried Cobra ’ s Max and X models at the RSM Classic .
Cobra presented its H . O . T
Face tech in its 2022 LTDx line of drivers . On Cobra ’ s submission to USGA ’ s conforming list , it had an identification marking that implies there ’ s an H . O . T Face feature on the 2024 Darkspeed drivers .
For those who are PING club enthusiasts , it ’ s — once a PING player , always a PING player . PING staffer Cameron Champ was seen recently teeing up with a new PING G430 Max 10K . While PING had the new driver details locked in a vault , Champ did offer media a few key insights about the Max 10K design , telling GOLF . com , “ I ’ ve been pounding balls with it . I was excited about it and wanted to keep hitting it to be sure . The feel is different than any driver I ’ ve hit ,” he said . “ To me , it feels very soft coming off the face ; you can really feel it . I ’ d go so far as to say it ’ s the softest driver I ’ ve ever hit . Different sound , too .” The PING G430 Max 10K may be a contender for a test drive at this year ’ s KC Golf Show .
