AdventHealth Championship Returns to KC in May
a PGA TOUR-sanctioned event on the Korn Ferry Tour
Spring is just around the corner, meaning it’ s time to plan on attending the AdventHealth Championship, a PGA TOURsanctioned event on the Korn Ferry Tour. The annual Championship is held each May at Blue Hills Country Club in Kansas City, MO. This year, the dates are Thursday, May 15 – Sunday, May 18.
The AdventHealth Championship is the only PGA TOURsanctioned event in the greater Kansas City metro area. This Korn Ferry Tour event features the next generation of TOUR stars like Xander Schauffele, Cameron Young, and Sepp Straka, and the 2024 champion Harry Higgs of Overland Park, KS. All these players have competed in past AdventHealth Championships.
The four-day, 72-hole competition features 156 players from around the world vying for a total purse of $ 1,000,000. As the path to the PGA TOUR, the Korn Ferry Tour features some of the most talented professional golfers ready to compete and win on golf’ s biggest stage.
Higgs holed out on the 18th for an eagle from 83 yards at the 72nd hole, ultimately landing him a spot in a playoff with Tanner Gore at 19 under at Blue Hills Country Club.
Higgs started Sunday’ s final round in third place at 13 under, three shots behind Gore. Higgs was playing in the second-to-last grouping and quickly caught up with Gore after dropping four birdies in his first six holes. Then, Higgs played his next 11 holes at even-par, trailing Gore by three strokes as he played the par-5 18th hole. However, fans roared as Higgs stunned the crowds with his 83-yard hole-out for eagle on No. 18 just before Gore missed a 20-foot par putt on hole 17. Then, on the 18th, Gore was in a greenside bunker in two at with a chance to get up-and-down for the win, but he blasted out to 20 feet and couldn’ t convert for par, giving Higgs a playoff shot.
With hometown fans cheering him on, Higgs won with a 7-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole, again on the par-5 18th, and once again, roars erupted.
Higgs said this was a more than special win for him, especially with his history at this event. He made his Korn Ferry Tour debut here when the event was held at Nicklaus Golf Club as a 17-year-old Blue Valley North high schooler; however, he shot 69-84 and missed the cut, but the experience fueled a hunger to play professional golf. As a Korn Ferry Tour rookie in 2019, he finished runner-up at Blue Hills by a stroke, falling to his good friend Michael Gellerman.
One week after his AdventHealth Championship win, Higgs won the 2024 Korn Ferry Tour’ s Knoxville Open after making a long putt for eagle in a playoff. Higgs is now on the PGA TOUR. In late January 2025, Higgs played the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines South Course, finishing T63(+ 7). Keep your eyes on Higgs— he’ s good at dropping Eagles for the Win!
Harry Higgs
Thunderous roars exuded from golf fans on the final hole of the 2024 Championship for Harry Higgs, a hometown favorite who grew up in nearby Overland Park, KS( he was born in Philadelphia). He attended Blue Valley North High School and later Southern Methodist University. Higgs, age 33, is an imposing golfer at 6’ 2” and 235 pounds, but his larger-than-life happy-go-lucky personality has made him a fan favorite— particularly with Kansas City area golf fans.
