HOORAY... It’ s Masters Month!

It’ s April, my favorite time of year— Masters Month! I’ m still advocating for Masters’ Friday in April to become a National Holiday. However, tariffs are the headlines of the day and consuming our government officials’ time, so I don’ t foresee Masters’ Friday proclaimed an official national holiday any time soon. However, it’ s very likely that golfers will soon pay more for golf equipment due to tariffs. Thank you very much!

The 89th edition of the Masters Tournament will be played from April 10 – 13 at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, GA. It’ s my favorite time of year since the Masters Tournament is the first of the men’ s four major golf championships in 2025. Following that, we have the PGA Championship, May 15 – 18; the U. S. Open, June 12 – 15; and the Open Championship, July 17 – 20. Then comes the TOUR Championship, held August 21 – 24; I’ m not sure why it’ s not considered a“ Major.” Next up, the Ryder Cup returns to U. S. soil and will be contested September 26 – 28 at Bethpage Black Course in Farmingdale, NY. New York golf fans can be quite enthusiastic, so expect a wild and crazy Ryder Cup. Go team USA!
When it comes to the Masters, we all know that Augusta makes its own rules— no exceptions! That means allowing many current eligible LIV players, who are not allowed to play on the PGA TOUR, to play in the Masters. That includes six LIV players and past Masters champions who have lifetime exemptions— Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson, Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia, and others. Plus, any current LIV player who previously qualified for the Masters is still invited to play. It’ s pretty much the same story for the U. S. Open and the Open Championship. It’ s pretty cool that we get to watch LIV players play individual professional golf rather than exhibition team golf three times a year.
While he hasn’ t lit it up yet this year after seriously injuring his right hand while making ravioli for dinner on Christmas Day( 2024), Scottie Scheffler is making his fifth Masters appearance( 2025). Scheffler won the 2024 Masters Tournament, finishing 11 under par, four strokes ahead of runner-up Ludvig Åberg to claim a Masters record $ 3.6 million payday. Scheffler’ s 2024 victory marked his second Masters win in three years— the first at the 2022 Masters when he won by three strokes over Rory McIlroy. Scheffler is the fourth-youngest golfer to win the Masters twice. Could he be in the mix for the final round, or will McIlroy rise to the top of the pack and claim his first“ Green Jacket”?
How will you spend your Masters Holiday? Find a local course hosting a Masters tournament, shoot 11 under par, four strokes ahead of the runner-up, and take home the big winning purse of $ 100( in pro shop credits)! Celebrate like you’ re the guy in the Butler Cabin at Augusta sporting that green jacket— don’ t forget to wave at the screaming fans cheering your big win. Well, at least it’ s fun to pretend!
Please remember, you won’ t be competing for $ 3.6 million in prize money, so try to keep a good pace of play. Watch behind you— if players are lurking behind you on the tee box waiting to hit— pick up your pace. In doing so, we’ ll all make it home in time to watch the final round and see that green jacket slipped on the 2025 champion.
Happy Masters Month! Victoria and I will be watching!
