KGF Awards Grants to Junior Golf Programs Across Kansas
The Kansas Golf Foundation( KGF) recently announced the recipients of its Junior Golf Grants, supporting programs that provide young golfers with access to the sport and essential resources to develop their skills. This year, three outstanding programs have been awarded funding to continue their mission of growing the game and fostering sportsmanship, discipline, and inclusivity among youth golfers. Up to $ 5,000 awarded annually.
Atwood Country Club Junior Golf Program
Located in Northwest Kansas, the Atwood Junior Golf Program has introduced young golfers to the sport for decades. With a short but impactful season from late May to mid-July, this program offers bi-weekly practices and competitive play in regional tournaments. The KGF grant funding will go toward purchasing essential practice equipment such as shag bags, range balls, and hitting nets, as well as helping to launch a First Tee program to further enrich the golfing experience for local youth.
Oswego Golf Course Junior Golf Program
Serving young golfers ages 7-18 in southeast Kansas, the Oswego Junior Golf Program provides a structured environment for skill development and sportsmanship. Operating since 2010, the program runs through June with weekly practices and competitive meets. The KGF grant will help cover participation fees, ensuring all interested youth have the opportunity to play, and will also provide funding for new golf equipment, including clubs and balls. Notably, Oswego has made a significant impact in increasing female participation, with one-third of its players now being young girls.
Optimist Club of Franklin County Junior Golf Program A long-standing supporter of youth golf, the Optimist Club of Franklin County, Kansas, has been offering instruction in putting, chipping, and ball striking since 2009. The program culminates in a season-ending tournament and awards ceremony to celebrate young players’ achievements. This KGF grant will support the purchase of additional equipment and contribute to launching a new Junior Golf League at the local golf course, providing more structured instruction opportunities for young golfers to compete and grow in the sport.
