making them much easier to hit from . And you will hit from one eventually — trust me ! It could happen on the dogleg right , par-4 2nd hole — statistically , the hardest hole on the course .
“ Two is a great hole ,” Kennedy said . “ It gives you plenty of room off the tee to hit the fairway , but the second shot is guarded by a creek and a green surrounded by bunkers .”
If you ’ re lucky enough to avoid the sand on two , you may not be so lucky on the uphill , par-3 3rd . “ It ’ s a fun par 3 that can play as short as 100 yards or as long as 195 yards ,” he said . But , put it on the green because it , too , like the second hole , is a sand save waiting to happen .
▲ The slightly uphill , par-3 3rd could be considered a signature hole at Eagles ’ Landing . A fun , yet challenging par 3 that can play from 100 to 195 yards depending on the tee box you play . The green ’ s front-side is surrounded by pothole bunkers . Target the middle of the green if you want to score par here .
When asked what stands out the most to him about Eagles ’ Landing over his past 25 years , Kennedy said , “ It ’ s hard to pick just one thing I ’ m most proud of because the list is too long . There have been a lot of great things happen over the years , but I would say the relationships I ’ ve developed with the customers who repeatedly play here is something I ’ m very , very proud of .” That ’ s true , and I ’ ve seen it first-hand . Kennedy knows nearly everyone who walks through the clubhouse door on a first-name basis , and in this day and age where customer service is sometimes nonexistent — that ’ s huge . “ He ” and his staff make you want to come back — the course and the challenges of conquering it also keep you coming back .
Eagles ’ Landing has a few holes where you can catch your breath and a few — like the dogleg right , par-4 12th that take your breath away .
Kennedy thinks the 12th is the hardest hole on the course . “ It ’ s not a long hole , but you need to hit an accurate tee shot and lay up short of the pond in order to have a shot at the green ,” he said . “ The green is extremely elevated , so you need to hit an extra club to compensate .”
If 12 is the hardest hole , Kennedy thinks the 13th is Eagles ’ Landing ’ s most scenic . This uphill par 4 , like the 12th , is not very long , but it forces you to hit at least one extra club to the green . And once you ’ re there , the real challenge begins !
“ The green is the great equalizer on this hole ,” he said . “ It slopes from back to front and can be very quick . If your shot is above the hole , be careful not to hit it off the front of the green ; it can be that fast !”
▲ One of Kennedy ’ s favorite holes is the dogleg right , par-4 12th . An accurate tee shot and lay-up short of the pond gives golfers the best approach shot — with a little extra club to an extremely elevated green . Kennedy would like to add a waterfall feature behind the green one day . We ’ ve added a waterfall here to visualize how it might look .
Playing anywhere from 4,900 to 6,900 yards ( 5,700 from the white tees ), Eagles ’ Landing is a fun and fair test of your golf skills . Water comes into play on several holes , and there are enough “ twists and turns ” ( i . e ., doglegs ) to make the course both interesting and challenging . And when you walk through the clubhouse door , get ready to be greeted with a warm welcome ! Kennedy wouldn ’ t have it any other way !
