Thank you for picking up the fall 2023 issue of TechWatch Magazine . We have so much to cover for you in this second edition , so many things we just can ’ t wait to share with you .
As you may know , October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month , which , since 2004 , has been used by the federal government to highlight the threat that poor cybersecurity measures pose for American organizations . Furthermore , governments use this month to work with local managed services providers ( MSPs )— like us — to disseminate cybersecurity-strengthening initiatives and knowledge .
One way you can strengthen your cybersecurity is by equipping your organization with a comprehensive cybersecurity insurance policy . Remember that you can wear your antivirus “ seatbelt ” at all times and “ drive ” your firewall in a safe and responsible manner but accidents still happen because there are other drivers on the road .
Back in 2022 , we got a call from a good-sized multistate organization . Some bad guys had hit their servers with a ransomware attack , and the company ’ s IT department wasn ’ t trained to handle an attack of that caliber . Not like my team . We were the guys for the job ! But it still took us two weeks of winter “ vacation ” at a hotel to get everything back up and running .
Prior to leaving , I advised our new client that they had used the wrong approach to IT and to cybersecurity because his organization was considering only profits rather than costs and risks .
Throughout this issue , business innovators and thought leaders provide more valuable insights and actionable advice for scaling up , too . And just a quick reminder that it is still hurricane season for affected areas like Florida , Texas , and Louisiana . Work with your MSP to review your daily backup system and evaluate whether or not your solution is fit to survive a large hurricane .
