Internet safety and privacy are at the top of the list of concerns for the state-of-the-art, cutting edge, tech-guru-teacher who is or aspires to be and instructional designer. Blogs are an awesome web-based tool to use for teaching creative writing to students; Kidblog was designed by teachers specifically for kids AND teachers! From the website: "Kidblog is built by teachers, for teachers, so students can get the most out of the writing process. Our mission is to empower teachers to embrace the benefits of the coming digital revolution in education. As students become creators - not just consumers - of information, we recognize the crucial role of teachers as discussion moderators and content curators in the classroom. With Kidblog, teachers monitor and control all activity within their classroom blogging community." If I had to chose one feature that sold me on Kidblog, it is the one that allows parents to have access to review and monitor their child's blog account. It is easy to open a free account (there are paid upgrades available) and getting started is a breeze! Other things worth mentioning about Kidblog include:
Teachers have administrative control over all student blogs and student accounts
Student blogs are private by default – viewable only by classmates and the teacher. Teachers can elect to make posts public, while still moderating all content.
Oh...and did I mention KIDBLOG is ALWAYS FREE for teachers?! Check it out at http://kidblog.org/home/
