Tear in the Radio #2 - The Stolen Volume 2 | Page 53
“As for We Are Friends, to us, it's where we want to be.” Says Stam. “Croton was us
dipping our toe in the water and trying to find our sound/which way we wanted to
take the band. I think we really captured that on We Are Friends. We were caught
between an indie pop path and an alternative rock path, which you can hear if you
compare a song like “Elephant Town” and “These Are the Days.” As the music got
bigger and better, I think from an unbiased standpoint, and I'm sure the guys would
agree with me when I say, the vocals got taken to another level as well. I think I
became more comfortable with what I was doing and believed in what I was saying
which resulted in reaching for those high notes and providing more power. We really
took our time with this one too. We really chiseled at the songs time and time again
until they were where we wanted them to be.”
In terms of the future, Stam sums it up the best: “I want to say the corny answer that
we’re gonna do it. But I guess a good way of putting it is like, and correct me if I’m
wrong, is just taking it as far as it goes. If we end up playing our last show, we had a
good time anyway. But it won’t be.”
