“What’s probably the basis of our band, the whole structure of it, is that we all have
known each other since the first grade,” reflects Jake Stam on the formation of
Friends at the Falls. “Matt is my neighbor along with Don and Dan is like ten minutes
down from house. I went to school with Kevin and actually jammed with him for a
long time, way before I knew I wanted to be a musician.” “We got real connections
here,” Matthew Montgomery says in agreement to Stam. “I went to pre-school with
Don, went to high school with Jake and Kevin. Plus, Dan was there when my first
girlfriend broke up with me so we’ve grown up together pretty closely.”
A band of best friends is what Friends at the Falls are essentially to the core. A band
of friends that are spread across the north east as they are also students finishing up
school alongside their music. “That’s the most challenging part,” explains
Montgomery. “Especially if we planned for a show on one weekend that we were all
back, we’d kind of have a sporadic practice like ‘Alright, we need to get our stuff
down before the show.’ You know it’s pretty tough, Don actually drives down from
Maine for it but we would’ve stop a long time ago if we didn’t love doing it.”
“But we do communicate to write music and get shows, we’re always talking.” Adds
Kevin DuBois.
Stam makes a comment: “If DuBe had an iPhone, he’d be in more group chats.”
DuBois, completely taken back from the remark, looks at Stam in defeat. “Bro.”
