“ As a lover of books and the written word, I feel it's really
important to tell a story and paint a picture for the listener,” says the
lavender haired singer-songwriter from Connecticut, Sarah Barrios. “I
like when lyrics use imagery to get the point across. Artists such as
Allen Stone, Ed Sheeran and Amy Winehouse not only do that, but do
it with music that just has a good groove to it and I try to have my
music give off that same feel.” The bluesy pop musician has created
a popular presence with her pleasantly raspy and alluring voice,
accompanied with her guitar as she sings tales of empowerment.
In the beginning of her career, Barrios was still in the midst of
figuring out what her sound was, often tapping into trying out a more
bluesy tune or creates songs that were more folk rooted or
reminiscent of indie tunes: “I had a love for so many different types of
music that I didn't really know where Sarah Barrios fell in that
spectrum.” Along with the discovery of her sound and tone, Barrios
transitioned to mainly songwriting about getting her own feelings out
to writing for both parties. “If I can write a song that someone can
relate to or that can make them feel happy or empowered in a time
where they are struggling, I've done my part.” Barrios explains when
reflecting on her debut EP Sarah Barrios and how far she’s grown
since then. “I think it's important that, no matter what field of work you
go into, that what you are doing positively effects other people and
helps them.”
