The Visit of the Wise Men
Matthew 2:1-12 ‘’Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold,
wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we
saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled,
and all Jerusalem with him; and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them
where the Christ was to be born. They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the
prophet: “‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for
from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’” Then Herod summoned the wise men secretly
and ascertained from them what time the star had appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, “Go and
search diligently for the child, and when you have found him, bring me word, that I too may come and worship
him.” After listening to the king, they went on their way. And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose
went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced
exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell
down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and
myrrh. And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own country by another
way.’’
Mary Visits Elizabeth
Luke 1:39-45 ‘’In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a town in Judah, and
she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary,
the baby leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and she exclaimed with a loud
cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why is this granted to me that
the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the
baby in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was
spoken to her from the Lord.”
Mary’s Song
Luke 1:46-55 And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for
he has looked on the humble estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me
blessed; for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. And his mercy is for those
who fear him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in
the thoughts of their hearts; he has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of humble
estate; he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. He has helped his
servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his offspring
forever.”
Verses About the Birth of Jesus
John 1:9-14 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world,
and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own
people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to
become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but
of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son
from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not
perish but have eternal life.
Galatians 4:4 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under
the law.
