Team 4201 members have the great opportunities to complete internships at engineering companies such as Northrop Grumman, Boeing, Space X, and CXC Simulations. The companies have great relationships with Da Vinci Science and in particular Boeing and Northrop Grumman provide funds for Team 4201. Team members shared out their experiences from their internships as described below:
Chan Le, part of the design team, was part of a great internship program at Boeing during the summer of 2013. He was part of the Boeing project that was responsible for the outreach of the team, for the company wants to encourage younger people to pursue engineering. Chan was in the engineering resources section and was responsible for assisting his mentor on this project throughout is term. As he collaborated with others, he had much fun and became inspired to pursue a STEM career. He plans to major in Computer Science in hopes that he will create things for a living.
Molly Mettler, CAD captain, is currently interning at SpaceX. SpaceX currently only offers internships to two high school students and she is one of them. She has been an IT intern since the summer of 2013. She works with software and computers. Her experience at SpaceX is described as “super fun” and has enjoyed it as she has been inspired to pursue a career in mechanical engineering. Being in an environment that is heavily engineering based has allowed her to have a real world experience that very few places can offer.
Walter Castellanos, part of the programming team, has been interning at the company of CXC Simulators since the fall of 2013. CXC Simulators is a company that constructs professional racing simulators. Walter completes different tasks for the company as part of his internship. Two of the main tasks that he completes include building the physical frame of the racing simulators and as well as programming it. Walter has enjoyed his experience working at CXC as he loves to build objects and he has learned to appreciate programming thanks to FIRST. He loves the fact that he can incorporate both the building and programming aspects into his internship.
