through the production of short videos and improved their ability to cooperate in international teams.
The activity increased students ' awareness of the importance of freedom, human rights, courage and civic responsibility. By exploring historical biographies and listening to the experiences of local residents, they gained a broader understanding of how personal choices and collective action could influence society. Working with students from different countries also encouraged intercultural dialogue and helped participants recognise that freedom and historical memory could be understood through different national and personal experiences.
7. Final Reflection
The city game“ Traces of Freedom” provided students with an opportunity to experience history beyond the classroom. By exploring places in Tarnobrzeg, investigating historical sources, interviewing local residents and producing videos, they connected historical knowledge with personal reflection and contemporary social issues. The activity demonstrated that historical memory was preserved not only through monuments and written records but also through conversations, personal experiences and the choices made by individuals and communities. Students discovered that understanding the past required curiosity, critical thinking and respect for different perspectives.
Most importantly, the city game encouraged students to reflect on the meaning of freedom in their own lives. They recognised that freedom involved both rights and responsibilities and that protecting democratic values required informed decisions, respect for human dignity and active participation in society.
Through this experience, students strengthened their historical awareness, intercultural understanding and sense of civic responsibility. They were encouraged to see themselves not only as learners of history but also as young people who could contribute to preserving freedom and building a more democratic and inclusive future.
