Teachers Thriving Issue #2 | Page 71

DAILY PRACTICE

Set aside time each morning, or at the end of each day, to set up your list for the day ahead.

1. Select 4-5 Post It tasks that must be done today (You read it right, no more than 4-5 items). Place these in the column: 'Today' 'Must Do'.

2. Select 2-3 tasks that you would like to get done if time permits. Place these in the column: Today, Nice to do

3. The rest go in the Not Today column and stay there until you re-do your list tomorrow morning.

Repeat daily.

HELPFUL TIPS

● Each time you complete a task, rip off the Post It note and throw it out - feel the dopamine hit of satisfaction!

● At first, everything may seem vital! That’s normal. Stick with it; the backlog does clear.

● Over time you may notice that some items seem to remain on the Not Today list. This could be a sign that: a) You are avoiding or procrastinating, or b) The task is not that important, and you can take it off the list.

● Put YOU on the list. What fills you up? Is it time to read/exercise/meditate? Put it on your list. Make time for it. Honour it. One teacher I know has 15 minutes of reading for pleasure on her list every day, and it’s the first task she ticks off each morning.

● Make it a habit to roughly calculate how long it will take to complete all the tasks on your 'Today, Must Do List' and then check in: Is there time to complete it all or are you expecting too much of yourself?
