Teachers Thriving Issue #2 | Page 59

"I’m hosting some amazing artists and workshops. Australian Ceramics Association and Keane Clay are sponsoring the event. I’m hoping that I can offer this annually and encourage and support Art Departments in Queensland and Northern New South Wales in offering innovative and exciting clay processes to their students."

Additionally, on the 18th-19th August, Larissa will be participating in the Australian Ceramics Association Open studio weekend. Guests will able to participate in workshops, see demonstrations and purchase artworks.

Larissa is fascinated by the unusual use of media and how ceramic materials can be transformed through a process.

"I’m drawn to artworks that make emotional connections but still value beauty. I love the photographic works of Dianne Arbus and Walker Evans, the ceramic works of Pippin Drysdale and several contemporary Japanese artists."

Larissa emphasises how essential it is to make the commitment to connect with your community and skilled artisans.

"I have made important working relationships with my clay manufacturers, kiln supplier, gallery curators and other art teachers. Be willing to teach others, and new information and opportunities will come back to you."

Larissa is currently working on an Art teachers' professional development day called ART in CLAY.
