Teachers Thriving Issue #2 | Page 45

In hindsight, I probably wouldn't have put in for a transfer if I knew how well it was going to take off. At that school, they knew me well and what I was doing. When I wanted to go part-time the next year, they would have allowed that. It was hard. Everything was starting to take off. I was getting all these great invites and working opportunities, but I couldn't take them because I'd transferred to a new school full time.

The plan for the start of 2016 was to do relief teaching.

I got a prep contact two days a week in Term One. Then a Head of Curriculum role came up for Term Two. It was three days a week, so I applied for it. I went through the panel and got the job. I did that for two years, and then the deputy principal role came up for term two this year where I am now. I went for that and once again got it.

Alex explains achieving the deputy position is a career highlight.

It was such a lovely MOMENT because the people I worked with at my first school were there from the BEGINNING.
