More than half of the students enrolled at the school, speak English as an additional dialect or language.

"Many of our students don’t just speak one or two languages, some of them have four languages. We are fortunate we have an EALD teacher four days a week."

Alex graduated from the University of Southern Queensland in 2010 with a Bachelor of Education Primary and Middle Schooling. Completing a major in early childhood Alex can teach early years through to year 10.

"I would love to study my Masters. I'd love to go towards the leadership component. One Day. That's on the 'one-day' list."

"I've always worked in low socioeconomic areas, which I love. My first school was a National Partnership (Low SES) school."

Alex explains her current school, where she is Acting Deputy Principal is her first Brisbane school. Until recently, she has always worked in Ipswich, where she grew up.

"My first school, where I taught was the school I went to as a student. I was lucky in that respect. I knew the clientele and the community because I was part of that community. I could focus and hone in on my teaching skills."
