MOBILE APP: BE FOCUSED

This task management app is based on the effective Pomodoro technique. The method, developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s, breaks down tasks into focused work intervals of 25 minutes, separated by short breaks. The app allows you to create a 'To Do' list, has a timer for work and breaks, ability to adjust intervals and track the number of Pomodoro cycles to complete a task.

TEDTALK: TO LEARN IS TO BE FREE

Shameem Akhtar describes how disguised as a boy during her early childhood she was able to get an education, something that is not accessible to many girls in Pakistan. She recounts her steps to secure employment in health and then becoming a teacher. Her actions have changed the culture of her local village and the lives of other girls who now have access to school, college and work.

PODCAST: STRAIGHT AND CURLY

If you are obsessed with self-improvement, the Straight and Curly podcast needs to be in your earbuds. Hosts, Kelly Exeter (with straight hair, also an author and editor) and Carly Jacobs (the curly one who blogs at Smaggle, also ex-teacher) trial a popular life-hack or discuss a topic on the minds of their Facebook groupies each week. You'll feel like you are listening in to your girlfriends solving life problems over a glass of wine while you're prepping the cheese platter.
