Teachers Thriving Issue #2 | Page 20

What are your qualifications and experience in classroom teaching?

I hold a double Bachelors Degree in Arts and Education specialising in Geography, History and Commerce. I went on to study for a Masters of Science in Geographical Education and have lots of experience with online and short course learning in Design Thinking and Philosophy.

I taught in schools in Sydney and the USA for almost ten years before moving into tertiary teaching (Master of Teaching Lecturer at USYD), as well as Learning Design and Policy. In schools, I spent most of the time teaching Senior Geography and Business Studies, but loved teaching and leading Middle School. I have served on the executive committee of the Middle Years of Schooling Association (now Adolescent Success) and NSW Geography Teacher Association. I keep connected to both associations in my current work.

Why do you do what you do?

I believe in the potential of passionate professionals and the power of a network coming alive in the sharing of stories. When we share in our networks and equipped with skills, tools and stories, we can change the world, starting with our own. It’s trebled when we are talking about supporting the teaching profession; the best profession in the world. When teachers get better at their job, kids get better outcomes, and we all win.

I like designing events. They are complex and exhausting, but I love it. I love bringing people together and making them feel like they are the superstars. I live for the moment when people are alive with excitement as they meet new people, share ideas and start on a journey together towards a better future. Being there when those connections are born is the very juice that is worth the squeeze!

I live for the MOMENT when people are alive with EXCITEMENT as they meet new PEOPLE, share IDEAS and start on a JOURNEY together towards a better FUTURE.
