Teachers Thriving Issue #2 | Page 25

What are your plans for the future?

Gaining a few more skills in the board governance space is on the cards in the short term. I hold board positions now and would like to expand that experience.

Mid-term, I will be perpetually dedicated to providing opportunities for teachers and professionals to come together in sharing and designing great learning; disrupting and challenging the status quo of event-based learning.

Long-term, being a good, kind, curious and clever human through shared experience and continued learning. But all we have is today, so in the words of KIPP Academy… the plan is to work hard, be nice and care heaps.

What would be the top three things someone should know if they are considering doing what you have done?

1. No matter the places you go, people you meet or stages you grace, nothing will ever beat the happy noise of a school.

2. Nurture your networks. Education is pretty tiny, and you’ll always be colliding with people in different circles. So don’t burn bridges.

3. Read. And read more. To be able to communicate and commentate on policy, practice, process and possibility on different scales and to a range of people is significant. Know your audience, always be ready to advocate!

No matter the PLACES you go, PEOPLE you meet or STAGES you grace, nothing will ever beat the HAPPY NOISE of a school.
