It is the start of a brand new school year and most of us, as educators, would have spent a portion of our summer break planning for the next school year. We, here at Teach Middle East Magazine, also spent some of our time planning as well, however, if we know anything, we know that working with children can be very unpredictable and things seem to be a little bit more unpredictable, here in the Middle East. We also know that some of the best moments happen when we have not planned them. Nowhere is this truer than in the classroom. Our students surprise us, excite us and sometimes infuriate us, but no matter what they do, we love and care for them in our own special way, because we are educators.
This school year, we would like to challenge you to allow yourself to go off script every now and again, enjoy the unplanned moments, let go of the reins and just go with the flow from time to time. You may discover or rediscover your joy for teaching and your passion for education. The curriculum is important, meeting deadlines is important, making sure students are prepared for assessments is important, but ensuring that our students leave our presence better than they came, is most important. This year take time to know your students, ask them about their interests and what motivates them. Find out about their hobbies, genuinely take an interest in what they are interested in, you may find that delivering the curriculum becomes a whole lot easier when they know that you care.
The 2017-2018 school year is shaping up to be a busy one and we, here at Teach Middle East Magazine, will be bringing you all the happenings. We are excited about the new educators joining us in the region and we are happy to share with them, articles and videos, to help them make a smooth transition. We are also excited about the many education conferences scheduled to take place this academic year, especially; The Middle East Maths Teachers Conference 2018, The Middle East School Leadership Conference 2018 and The MENA Teacher Summit, among many others. Keep following us at www. teachmiddleeastmag. com to keep pace.
In this issue we bring you an abundance of informative and thought provoking articles written by educators, for educators. From learning how to build an inclusive classroom, to setting a solid foundation in Mathematics, there is something for every educator. Our“ After the Bell” section features great articles to help you live a more balanced life. It covers travel, beauty, personal development, health and finance.
As usual the best conversations and interactions happen online, with likeminded educators, so make sure to connect with us on all major social media platforms; @ Teach Middle East Magazine. This year we are launching an exciting campaign to get all Middle East educators collaborating on twitter. Please join us by using the hashtag # TeachandTweet. Stay tuned for more information on this campaign.
We wish you a fantastic school year!
