tourists. Unfortunately, the rain and
fog did not allow for good views from
the observation deck. If I ever make
it back to Hong Kong, and the day is
clear, I would revisit Victoria Peak.

highly recommend visiting this park.
A quick online search informed us
that the Hong Kong Museum of
History was only a few minutes’ walk
away…and was free. We both love
museums, especially ones that are
as well organised as that one was.
Unsurprisingly, we spent nearly two
hours taking in the exhibits. The only
reason we left so soon was because
it was closing. We roamed the area
around the museum in search of a
restaurant. Then ended the day with
a hearty meal and well needed foot
massages.
Our second full day turned out to be
a rainy one, which resulted in a later
start than we had planned. The main
aim of the day was to go up Victoria
Peak to take in the famous panoramic
view of the harbour and skyline. On
the way there, the rain trapped us in
a mall at the foot of the Peak. It was
close to Christmas, so the mall was
beautifully decorated for the season.
That and a lovely performance by
a local children’s choir got us in the
holiday spirit and kept us entertained
while we waited for the rain to abate.
As soon as the rain ended, we made
our way to the tram that would take
us up the peak. Because it’s a very
popular tourist site, there was a
long line that lasted for nearly forty
minutes. The ride up was steep and a
bit unnerving for someone like me who
hates heights. However, there were
beautiful views to enjoy (despite the
poor weather conditions). Situated at
the top of the peak was a good-sized
shopping area that included a number
of restaurants. The lunch we had there
was decent, but definitely priced for
Though our three-day trip was cut
short by the rain, we thoroughly
enjoyed our trip to Hong Kong. The
vibe of the city was electric and
engaging. My cousin and I agreed that
it was a place in which we could both
see ourselves living and working. I’ll
definitely explore future long layover
options through there.
TOP TIPS
Get a metro card from the
machine near the information
booth.
The metro card can also be
used like a debit card in most
shops and restaurants.
There are a variety of budget-
friendly food options in or
near most metro stations.
Check the weather before
purchasing tickets to the
observation deck at Victoria
Peak.
It’s fine to book a hotel that
is not very central as long as
you find one that’s close to a
metro station.
