A fairy tale author, he was born in Odense, Denmark on April 2, 1805. He rose to fame in the silent era. An extremely creative and talented performer, Chaplin's classics include The Kid, The Gold Rush, City Lights and Modern Times. In 1975, Queen Elizabeth II knighted him. 1967 “It’s a lack of faith that makes people afraid of meeting challenges and I believe in myself.” – Muhammad Ali 1968 This is just one of the quotes from boxer Muhammad Ali, considered to be one of the greatest heavy weights in the history of the sport. On April 30, 1967, Boxer Muhammad Ali was stripped of his world heavyweight boxing championship titles after refusing to be inducted into the American military. He had claimed religious exemption. Nicknamed “The Greatest”, Ali was involved in several historic boxing matches, where he regained titles that he had been stripped of. “Life’s most urgent and persistent question is, what are you doing for others?” – Martin Luther King Jr. Dr King is one of the most recognised civil rights leaders in the black community. His work remains a fundamental part of conversations relating to race, religion and equality today. On April 4, 1968 - Civil Rights leader Rev. Dr Martin Luther King Jr. was shot and killed by a sniper in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr King had championed non-violent resistance to end racial oppression and had been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. In 1986, Congress established the third Monday in January as a national holiday in his honour.
